T1D Level 1 - Essential care of all students with Type 1 Diabetes
The "T1D at School" Level 1 course is based on international best practice and aimed at all staff employed by a school with a student living with Type 1 Diabetes. All school employees have a duty of care to apply an appropriate urgent response to all students, including those with Type 1 The duty is to act immediately and escalate to a person with specific Type 1 training.

ISPAD Level 2 T1D Individualized Education specific to the needs of that student
This "T1D at School", Level 2 Course is based upon the legally validated 2024 ISPAD Position Statement on Management of Type 1 Diabetes in Schools. The ISPAD Level 2 Education and Training comprises two distinct components: 1. T1D Level 2 Education course specific to the needs of that student. 2. T1D First Aid Training course. (Assessment & validation - RTO-controlled)

Level 3 Training - Competencies to manage the complex care of the individual student with Type 1 Diabetes
Schools/education authorities are legally obliged to execute complex medical care for the student with Type 1 Diabetes during school hours. School staff are required to have the essential and relevant qualifications, experience, and attributes to ensure the student's wellbeing and safety. This Level 3 course provides best practice international standard Type 1 Diabetes education and training aids to assist but not accredit or qualify school employees in the complex care of the student with Type 1. -

Level 1 Education - Essential competencies to manage of ALL students with Type 1 Diabetes
All school employees have a duty of care to all students, including those with T1D. The duty is to act immediately and escalate to a employee with the requisite training and qualifications.
Level 2 is applicable to school employees who interact directly with the student with T1D and are likely to be required to respond immediately to medical events in the classroom and/or during other school-based activities.
Level 3 Training- Competencies to manage the complex care of the individual student with Type 1 Diabetes
Complex care must be undertaken by an authorised health professional or non-medical employees with the appropriate student-specific education and the requisite training that provides qualification and authority as required in the local jurisdiction -

The T1D courses are the only Australian Diabetes in Schools courses compliant with Australian workplace safety legislation and the only course based on 2024 ISPAD Position Statement on Management of T1D in schools
T1D Learning Centre is not-for-profit. The clinical content is governed by an Advisory Committee including teachers and consumers. We encompass all aspects of the ISPAD ethos and promote ISPAD Clinical Guidelines.The course is designed to provide the appropriate education to school employees at a level commensurate with skills, acknowledging teachers are highly regarded teaching professionals. It does NOT provide authority for non-medical school employees to administer insulin. No such course currently exists in Australia.The 2024 ISPAD Position Statement on Management of Type 1 Diabetes in Schools is the seminal legally validated reference document upon which these courses are based.
